Mrs. Mary Leah Meredith died at their home in Bonaparte, Io., March 18th, 1908, aged 71 years, 2 months and 17 days. The funeral took place from the Methodist Episcopal church in Bonaparte, Friday, March 20. The services were conducted by Rev. G.W. Barber of Bussy, Iowa, the local pastors, Revs. Clark and Kemp, taking part in the services. Mary Leah, daughter of B.R. and Elizabeth Hornbaker, was born in Preble county, Iowa, January 1st, 1837. In the year that Iowa became a state, 1846, she, with her parents, came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Vernon township, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Jesse S. Meredith on the 7th day of Feb. 1856, beginning a married life that continued 52 years. They resided on the farm until 14 years ago, when they moved to Bonaparte. To this union three children were born, one son and two daughters, George, Luella and Bertha. She was a member of the M.E. church, having united with it during the pastorate of Rev. J.W. Wright, about 29 years ago. She lived an exemplary christian life and was respected by all. Surely a good woman has passed away. She is survived by her husband, three children, one brother and five grandchildren. Her body was laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery.
