Orpha Jackson was born at Mt. Zion, in this county, April 9, 1876. The term of earthly life allotted to her came to an end on the morning of Friday, March 2, 1906. She was thus 29 years, 10 months and 23 days old at the time of her death.
Her parents moved to Keosauqua in 1880, when she was a child of four years, and this placed has ever since her home. She was married to Ord Rankin Brown, June 3, 1897, who died on the 17th of last October. She was a perfectly healthy girl to all appearances, until she reached the age of fourteen or fifteen, when from illness she was forced to leave school. After a time her father put her in school at Galesburg, Ill., but the confinement and study were too much for her, and she returned home, not venturing to try school again.
She recovered her health and was fairly well, until two years ago last August, since which time she had been gradually losing in the effort for life. She was very frail at the time of her husband's death and soon thereafter came to her father's home where she had all the attention that love and care could give. She was confined to her bed for a littler more than a week, before the end came.
She was a member of the Ladies' Guild of the Congregational church, and of the P.E.O. Society.--Compiled from Rev. C.E. Perkins funeral discourse.
Funeral services were held at the home, Saturday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Charles E. Perkins, who was assisted by Rev. P.H. Hawk. A dense profusion of most beautiful flowers almost concealed the casket, the center figure being a large floral star, the emblem of the P.E.O. sisterhood ...(remainder is missing)
