A.W. Smith Dies of Appendicitis.
Mt. Hamil, Ia., Feb. 14 - Albert W. Smith died at the St. Joseph's hospital, Keokuk, of appendicitis. He had been complaining since early spring, but was able to follow his usual occupation until six days before his death, when he summoned Dr. I.F. Thompson and was taken by him to the hopital to undergo an operation which was unsuccessful. A second operation was performed with no better results, he living only til 12:30 o'clock a.m. of the next day.
He was born March 15, 1876, near Mt. Hamil, Ia., and united with the Sharon Presbyterian church February 14, 1889; was married on January 30, 1898, to Bessie Holmes, of Bentonsport, Ia., to which union were born five children, Lydia, Oliver, Willie, Anna and an infant girl born since his death.
Besides his wife and children there survive him his parents, Samuel and Lydia Smith, and brothers, Raymond of Farmington, Ia., Charles of Webb City, Mo.; Pierce, of Colorado Springs, Col.; Sallie Burnette, of Clarence, Mo.; Bertha Page, of Bonaparte, and Jasper and Lizzie Glendenning and Mary Holland, of Mt. Hamil, Ia. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.N. Steele. Interment in Sharon cemetery under the auspices of the Modern Woodmen.
