Benjamin Franklin Syfert was born in Pennsylvania, Sept. 11, 1821, and departed this life, April 21, 1908, at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 10 days.
While yet a small child he removed with his parents to Fairfield county, Ohio. Here he was married to Miss Elizabeth Warner, and to this union were born seven children, two girls and five boys, namely, Mrs. Mary Catherine Loofbourrow of Fairfield, Iowa; Mrs. Sarah Ellen Greaves of Tonapah, Nevada; George F., of Bonaparte, Iowa; Joseph Talbott of Bentonsport; Thomas Edward of Birmingham-all of whom are living, Isaac Parker having died in 1879, and Simon in infancy.
In 1848 Mr. Syfert and his family moved to Van Buren county, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life. His wife died May 30, 1872. He was again married to Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Jordan, March 4, 1873. To this union were born five children, viz: Allie Maud Kisling of Stockport, Iowa and James Wesley, who lives on the home farm. Two daughters died in infancy, and Charley, October 8, 1903.
Mr. Syfert united with the Lutheran church while he resided in Ohio. He lived a long and useful life and will be greatly missed by the family, and a host of friends and neigbors for whom he always had a cheerful word of greeting. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 23, at 2 o'clock, at the Miller chapel. The sermon was preached by Rev. Mayo, of Hillsboro.
