MRS. HARRY WERT.

Miss Mattie Brewington was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, 1863, and died at her home in Hannibal, Mo., Jan. 11, 1905. Keosauqua was her childhood home and it was here that she grew to womanhood. In 1882 she was united in marriage to Harry Wert. Six children were given to brighten their home, but the ties with the heavenly world had been strenghtened in that four of these preceded the mother to the better land. With two remaining sons aged 9 and 19 years, she leaves with sorrowing hearts, her companion, her father, three sisters and two brothers. When young she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and lived a consistent christian life. Mrs. Wert was possessed of a wonaly character and attracted to her a (a) very large circle of friends. She was kind and thoughtful as a companion, and a tender and loving mother, making home, by her painstaking and cheerfulness, a place of attraction and joy. She had been in ill health for about a year but continued in her household duties until about a week before her death, after which she was confined to her bed. A surgical operation was found to be necessary and she was removed to the hospital, where it was performed. But she could not be reclaimed to life and passed away after regaining consciousness but a few moments. She was brought to Keosauqua for interment and after services in the M.E. church conducted by the pastor Rev. Hardy A. Ingham, she was laid to rest in the beautiful Purdom cemetery. A number of beautiful floral pieces were given by friends and differnt orders of which she was a member.
