"At his residence No. 106 O street, at 12:25 this morning, Henry Shaffer passed away after a long illness, from complications resulting from old age. He was 69 years old, having been born near Berlin, Germany. He came to Keokuk 40 years ago and for 30 years thereafter was one of the most trusted Rock Island engineers running between Keokuk and Des Moines. Mr. Shaffer is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and the following sons: Charles S. of New Boston, Ill.; Wesley of Keosauqua, Iowa; Edward of Keosauqua, Iowa, and John Henry, Joseph and George of Keokuk.
