RAWLEY WALTER.

Rawley Walter, the subject of this sketch, was born in Preston county, West Virginia, July 16, 1827, where he grew to manhood. In the spring of 1851 he came to Iowa, living around Keosauqua and Vernon until the fall of 1852, when he returned to West Virginia. On January 13, 1853, he was married to Miss Winnifred White, and in April of that year he removed with his wife to Iowa, settling in Vernon, where they lived until the spring of 1856, when they moved to their farm near town, where they lived until the Lord called him home April 2, 1904, at the age of 76 years, 8 months, and 17 days. In early manhood he gave his heart to God and has been an earnest and faithful member of the M.E. church ever since. During his last sickness he would say he was just waiting until the Lord called him home. Of teh five children born unto him but two survive, George and Olive. Jerome died in Oct. 1903, the other two in childhood. Besides the immediate family, he leaves five-grandchildren, one sister and two brothers, and a host of friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Masonic order of Bonaparte, a delegation of his brethren being in attendance, and having charge of services at the cemetery. The funeral services were held in Vernon, April 3, at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. J.L. Ayrault, pastor of the Baptist church at Bonaparte. A large number of friends were in attendance at the funeral.
