Rev. Malachi Vinson was born in in[sic] Maryland, April 8, 1803, and moved with his parents to Ohio when a lad. He was married in 1825 and came to Iowa with his family in 1841, settling on the farm near Lebanon, Van Buren county, where he had resided for 58 years in the same homestead. Recently he went to Mt. Pleasant to be with relatives, where he died February 27, 1899, at the residence of his sister Mrs. A.T. Brooks, at the ripe old age of 96 years. He was a grand man and his life was one of great usefulness. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, where he died, at 3 p.m., February 28. The remains were taken to the old home near Lebanon, where they were laid to rest in the family cemetery by the side of the wife of his youth, on March 1, at 2 o’clock p.m. By his request there will be, at some future time, a memorial and funeral service by Rev. W.N. Groome, at the church in Lebanon, of which notice will be given.
