Mary S. Brown Wood 1810-1900

Mary S., daughter of James and Anna Brown, was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, August 31st, 1810. She united with the Presbyterian church at the age of seventeen years, having been converted at the Communion table under the services of Rev. A. O. Patterson. She came to Iowa on December 7, 1841, to join her brother, James A. Brown, who had removed here in April, 1840. She was married to Clement A. Wood, September 13, 1843, who preceded her to the better world some seven years ago.

Mrs. Wood was a charter member of the Bentonsport Presbyterian church, where she remained a zealous and consistent member until her death, which occurred December 13th, 1900, being 90 years, 3 months and 23 days old.

In late years she has lived with Mrs. Margaret Easter, her only child, at Albia, who, with three grandchildren, and one brother to mourn her departure.

The funeral occurred from the Presbyterian church in Bentonsport, conducted by Rev. Duty, of this place, and interment was made in the cemetery there.
