Mrs. Nancy J. Miller was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, Dec. 8, 1850. She was the third daughter of D. W. and Maria Boyer. They came to Farmington in 1854 and with them came the subject of our sketch. She was married to J. K. Miller at Bonaparte, Iowa, Nov. 12th, 1876; to them were born six children, Carl (a resident here), Benjamin Bert (died July 30th, 1894), Mrs. Hallie Van Zant (resident here), Herbert, Bessie and Hazel. Her children are all here to mourn this sorrowful parting, except Bert. He had preceeded [sic] mother to the other shore nine years and we trust was there to welcome and gladly greet her as her spirit entered the land of rest. To the other children she leaves the memory of a mother's faithful care and unselfish devotion to duty; as a precious legacy. This should be an inspiration to prompt them to live lives of virtue and usefulness. Her brother, Samuel, preceded her, in death by a few brief weeks. She professed in Christ and was a faithful member of the Christian church. For years she was a trusted employe [sic] of the Stirling Woolen Mills and supported her family mainly by her own exertion until ill health and failing strength compelled her to cease labor. Since that time her pathway to the end of life has been made as pleasant for her weakened nature as kind relatives, affectionate care, the helpful hands of her fellow laborers in the factory, and the Order of the Daughters of Rebecca could make it. But regardless of physicians skill and affection's prayers she was called from labor and suffering to rest where no hectic cou*h or troubled dream will break the sweet repose. She died March 26th, 1903, surrounded by her children and relatives, to all of whom she gave kindly admonitions and later peacefully fell asleep. Aged 52 years, 3 months and 18 days.
