Vida Roberta Philips, 81, of rural Douds died at 5:13 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Christ United Methodist Church at Douds with the Rev. Harold Harryman and the Rev. Robert Farr officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, east of Douds.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the family present from 7-8 p.m. Memorials may be sent to Christ United Methodist Church or left at the funeral home.
Mrs. Philips was born March 14, 1919, near Douds, the daughter of Ira and Gertrude Lowe Kerr. She married Rex Philips Dec. 18, 1937, in Fairfield.
She graduated from Birmingham High School in 1936 and lived her adult life as a farm wife in the Birmingham-Douds area.
She was active in the Mount Moriah Methodist Church, north of Douds; Christ United Methodist Church; and United Methodist Church Women of Douds. She was a 50-year member of Twin City Chapter No. 258 Order of Eastern Star of Douds and a member of the Mount Moriah Birthday Club. She had been a Cub Scout den mother and a Sunday school teacher. She also was active in the Douds Field Day Association.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Kriss Philips of Boone, Marvin Philips of Douds, Carl Philips of St. Louis, Mo., and Mike Philips of Brookings, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Verna Ruth Boyer of Keosauqua.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Veryl Kerr.
