Rebecca Ferney Brown.

Rebecca Ferney was born in Richmond, Va., Oct. 1, 1827, and died at her home in Bentonsport, Iowa, Sunday evening, Sept. 8, at the age of seventy three years, eleven months and seven days. Her early life was spent with her parents in Lebanon, Ohio. There she was married to Ezekiel A. Brown, May 30, 1849. Six children blest this union -- John, Mary, Jesse, Agnes and Rebecca and one child dying in infancy. In 1889 Mr. and Mrs. Brown removed to Van Buren Co. Iowa, and spent several years in Bonaparte. Mrs. Brown has been an invalid for several years, but being a woman of broad intellect and well educated, much of her time was spent in reading and study. From her childhood she has been an earnest christian, and those who knew her always felt uplifted by contact with her contented, cheerful home life.

She leaves to mourn their loss the husband who is even now in the valley of the shadow of death, and two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Snare and Mrs. Mary E. Holmes, and four grandchildren. The funeral occurred at her late home in Bentonsport at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning, Rev. McElhinny officiating, and the remains were sent to Lebanon, Ohio, for interment beside the graves of her deceased children.
