NEALLY.
William Neally was born October 29, 1833, at Monmouth, Warren county, Ill., and died August 7, 1901, at Bonaparte, Iowa, aged 65 years, 9 months. When quite young he was left an orphan without brother or sister. At about the age of eighteen, he together with a party of companions decided to see their fortunes in the west. Upon reaching St. Louis they went by boat to New Orleans and eventually across the plains to Colorado where he was a teamster until war time when he enlisted in a Colorado regiment and served for 38 months.
Mr. Neally came to Iowa in Oct. 1865, and was married to Cordelia C. Smith, Aug. 5, 1866. To this union were born seven children, five sons and two daughters. The first born died in infancy but the remaining six live in Bonaparte and vicinity. At the age of thirty-five he became a member of the Baptist church but soon afterward removed to Chickisaw [sic] county and on his return placed his letter of membership with the M. E. church, where he remained until death.
He was a kind and affectionate husband and father and a good neighbor. He was sick about eight months and was always patient and resigned, saying that the Master would not lay on us more than we were able to bear. He leaves to mourn their irreparable loss his faithful companion and six children, also four grand-children.
The funeral services were held at 2 P. M., Saturday, Rev. Rolingson being in charge of the services at the house and the G. A. R.'s officiating at the grave. A large number of sympathizing friends were present.
