Isaac Mendenhall was born in Hawkins county, Tenn., May 25, 1815, and died at the home oh is daughter, Mrs. M. M. De Rivieres July 4, 1901, aged 86 years, 1 month and 9 days. He was married to Elizabeth Atkison July 3, 1834. To this union were born ten children; eight of whom; three boys and five girls, survive to mourn the loss of father. His wife died August 11, 1889, at the age of 75 years.
He left Tennessee in the early part of his married life, removing to Illinois where he lived until 1850, when he moved to Lee county, Iowa. He next removed to Van Buren county where he has lived until his death. He enlisted in Co. C., 37th regiment Iowa Infantry, October 20, 1862, to serve three years or during the war. He was promoted to be sergeant of his company from the service of his country, May 24, 1865, at Davenport, Iowa at the close of the war.
Funeral services occurred at his late home, at 10 o'clock, Saturday July 6th., conducted by J. L. Ayrault. The body was interred at Bentonsport, the G. A. R. post having charge of service there.
