Melvin Lloyd Watson, 70, of Stockport died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 12, 1997, at Jefferson County Hospital.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stockport Christian Church with the Rev. Dick Devore and the Rev. Milton Duhon officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Spencer Cemetery in Stockport. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established.
Watson was born March 18, 1926, in rural Stockport, the son of Cleo Estes and Mamie Anna Wilson Watson. He married Marcelene M. Horn Aug. 5, 1944 in Hillsboro. He was a lifelong resident of the Stockport community and Van Buren County. He farmed until retiring and moving to Stockport in 1990. He attended Big Cedar Christian Church. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of Stockport American Legion 147.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Linda Jean Carter of Hillsboro, Marcia Lynn Swartout of Brownsburg, Ind., Susan Irene Swartout of Mooreville, Ind., and Deborah Diane Jury of Farmington; one son, Wayne Leland of Stockport; one brother, Virgil Elmer of Stockport; two sisters, Helen Marie Syfert of Hillsboro and Hazel Eileen Harper of Fairfield; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Brad Kendall.
