R.J. 'Jake' Miller

R.J. "Jake" Miller, 80, of Selma died at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Eldon Christian Church in Eldon, with George Conz officiating. Interment will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery near Selma.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials have been established to Eldon Christian Church and Stiles Christian Church.

Robert Jacob Miller was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Abingdon, the son of Ralph Ollany and Sarah Harriett Day Miller. He married Eva Lucille Brooks June 19, 1949, in Eldon. She died Sept. 28, 1983.

Mr. Miller served in World War II in the United States Navy aboard the USS Euryale in the Pacific.

He farmed and worked at Amerian Chain and Cable until his retirement. He lived his entire adult life on his farm across from Carroll Rock in northeastern Davis County.

He was a member of IAMA union. He also was a member of Eldon Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Steve Miller and wife Becky of Bloomfield; one daughter, Sheryl Turner and husband Doug of Bloomfield; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, David Keith Miller of Wilmington, N.C.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Cecil R. Miller; and two sisters, Esther Van Skiver and Cora Raymond.
