Berdena Mae Bagby, 95, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.
A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Dave Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
No family visitation is planned.
Memorials may be made to Stockport Methodist Church.
Mrs. Bagby was born April 7, 1912, the daughter of Frank and Festusina Bonnett Anderson. She married Chester Ellis Bagby Aug. 14, 1933, in Kahoka, MO. He died April 27, 1992.
Mrs. Bagby lived all but the last 10 years in the Stockport and Birmingham area. She began teaching in one-room school houses with a Normal Teaching Permit. She continued her education at Parsons College and then obtained a masters degree in music education from the University of Iowa. She taught in the rural county school districts of Jefferson and Van Buren counties and in Stockport, Keosauqua, Winfield and Washington school districts.
Following retirement, Mrs. Bagby was a substitute teacher for the Fairfield school district for several years.
She was active as a musical director for different productions in Keosauqua and was a director of the Sweet Adeline group. She gave piano and organ lessons and was organist for Stockport Methodist Church in Stockport.
Mrs. Bagby was a member of the Stockport Saddle Club and Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club for many years, as well as the LG Club of Stockport.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Ramona Bagby of Stockport; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dean H. Bagby; one brother, Frank Anderson; one sister, Eva Wentworth; and one great-granddaughter.
