Death of W. Wherry,

Died in Los Angeles, Cal., Dec. 20 Hon. W. R. Wherry, who for many years was one of the most prominent and influential citizens of Van Buren county. Mr. Wherry was aged 62 years. He was born in Pennsylvania at the age of 20 graduated from Princeton University and two years later located at Keosauqua where he read law and became a member of the noted law firm of Lea & Beaman and later of the firm of Wherry & Walker, connection was maintained until his removal to Los Angeles some 10 years ago.

Mr. Wherry was not only a fine scholar, but possessed fine native ability, although he was of a modest and retiring disposition. Personally he was one of the most agreeable and likeable men with whom we ever became acquainted. And Mr. Walker, who was so intimately associated with him many years, expressed himself to the writer in almost the same terms, that "Mr. Wherry was the nicest man he ever knew."

Mr. Wherry served in the Iowa general assembly from this county in 1884 86, being the youngest member of that body, but his worth was recognized by his being made a member of the most important committees. He served two terms as county attorney. He rendered our town much service as a mebmer of the council, the town largely owing its water and electric light plants to him.

Mr. Wherry is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ida Eno-Wherry, and a daughter and grandchild.
