Obituary of Mrs. D.K. Calhoun.
Emma Rebecca, daughter of Mary B. and Isabelle Travis, was born in Indiana county, Penn., June 12, 1849, and passed from this life to her Heavenly home, July 24th, 1915, at 2:15 p.m., aged 66 years, 1 month and 12 days.
She was one of a family of eight children, who were left orphans when she was quite young.
She came to Van Buren county in 1865, and was united in marriage to David K. Calhoun, Nov. 19, 1868. Since their marriage they have lived on the home farm, 4 miles southeast of Birmingham, until December, 1907, when they moved to their present home.
To this union were born four children--Mrs. Birdie Bonnett, Birmingham; Mrs. Louella Bogle, Pawnee, Neb.; and Miss Lillie, who remains at home. One son, Johnson B., died February 16, 1900.
She united with the Presbyterian church at Birmingham, June 22, 1867, and she has ever remained a true, loyal and consistent christian, always taking an active interest in church affairs.
She leaves to mourn her departure, the husband, three daughters, two brothers, one sister, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, besides other relatives and a large circle of friends.
Her illness was over a year's duration, and while her suffering has been intense and nearly unbearable, having been under the care of a trained nurse for over six months, she bore it all with cheerfulness and an exemplary christian fortitude.
The three daughters, with the husband, have given her every attention and were with her in her last hours.
