DIED - At the residence of her son, 6 miles east of Birmingham at 8 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 19th, 1893, with paralysis, HANNAH NEWMAN, aged 78 years, 7 months and 24 days.

Hannah Holliday was born in England in 1814, and emigrated with parents to Morgan county, Ill., when eight years of age. Nove. 10th, 1837 she moved to Henry county, Iowa, and resided there until 1842, when she came to Van Buren, where she continued to reside until her death.

In 1831 she was married to William Newman and nine children was the result of this union, four sons and one daughter being left to mourn her loss.

At the age of 14 years she professed religion and united with the M.E. church. For a number of years, until age had enfeebled her, she was a great worker ....revivals wa....ower, ca....to....he right..(missing)....ly advice.

Columbus day she was going to witness their exercises at the school hours. While on the way in her buggy she had a slight stroke of paralysis, but went on and had to be lifted from the buggy and carried into the house. While the children were speaking she attempted to move on her seat and fell to the floor. She was picked up and conveyed to the residence of her son John D. Newman, where every care that loving hands could bestow was given her, but she suffered excruciating pain until relieved by death.

Her daughter Eleanor Spencer came from California to assist in caring for her, but as she arrived at the gate and attempted to alight from the conveyance fainted and fell, severely injuring herself, from the effects of which she has not entirely recovered.

Her son Dr. M.N. Newman of Ossian, Ind., was with her for a few days, as was her only sister Mrs. Belinda Sargeant, of Morgan county, Ill. But having families to care for could not remain long.

Her son Dow came from Idaho, and remained by her bedside for five weeks, ministering to her every want night and day.

It appeared to do her great good to think her children cared enought for her to come such long distances to be with and do all they could to ease her pain and make her last days cheerful and pleasant.

She died at John Newman's and he and his good wife did everything possible for her comfort and happiness, and her many friends and neighbors, cheerfully tendered their aid and consolation, and will always be kindly remembered by the children.

A kind mother, a good neighbor and a chrisitan woman has gone to her reward.
