Obituary.

Joseph D. Howell died at his home in Glasgow, Friday, April 29, 1904, aged 66 years, 7 months and 6 days. The funeral was held Sunday in Glasgow, and the interment was in the Glasgow cemetery.

Joseph D. Howell was born in Montgomery county, Virginia, September 23, 1837. He was married October 26, 1856, to Jane E. Workman, and to them were born five children, all living, as follows: James T. Howell, of Martinsburg; John S. Howell, of Glasgow; Benjamin W. Howell, of Bloomfield; Joseph C. Howell, of Glendale, and Mrs. Lizzie G. Brewer, of Stockport. They were all with him during his last illness. His suffering was severe, but was born with Christian fortitude. His death is a severe blow to the wife and children, but was not unexpected.

Mr. Howell was converted in 1865, being baptized in the Glasgow Baptist church, and in 1884 was elected first deacon which position he retained until his death. His Christian life was an exemplary one. He was superintendent of the Sunday School for many years, and was always a very zealous worker in the church, and will no doubt receive many stars in his "crown of rejoicing" for his efficient work.

As a matter of history, we give the following: John Howell, father of the deceased, was three times elected senator in Virginia, and twice in Iowa, and was a man of great influence in community and church.
