AFTER MONTHS OF SUFFERING MRS. VAN DORN PASSES AWAY
---------
As the months and years pass on, many of the older residents of Bonaparte are joining the "silent majority." Indeed, during the past two years the Grim Messenger has harvested many in fullness of years from the field of this locality. Of these his latest acquisition was our well-known and many-respected resident, Mrs. Van Dorn.Sarah O. Kane was born in Lincoln Co., Ohio August 3, 1831.
She came to Iowa in 1856 and was united in marriage to William Van Dorn July 3, 1857. To this union was born one child, Mary Anna (Mrs. Philip Eich) who with her father and daughter mourn her loss.
At an early age she united with the Baptist church at Kukersville, Ohio, of which she remained a member until she united with the Presbyterian church of Bonaparte.
She died January 4, 1900, at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 1 day.
Mrs. Van Dorn was a woman of most excellent Christian character and deeds. She was an active Christian worker and will be greatly missed in the church. Her kindness in times of sickness and trouble has been experienced by many. Her family, the church, and the community have been blessed by her life. During her last sickness she frequently expressed her desire "to go home."
Funeral services were conducted at the residence of Mr. Philip Eich, Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 9th, by her pastor, Rev. W. H. Scofield. They were largely attended, and many friends also were present at the interment in the Bonaparte cemetery.
The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: James Bridge, L. C. Meek, D. W. Riggle, A. McDonald, H. H. Meek and J. H. Cresap.
