JOHN HASSLER
------
John Hassler, park custodian of Farmington state park, died Friday afternoon at his home after an illness of several months. His friendly face, his hearty welcome and his helpful services in the performance of his work will be missed by many friends of this state institution. Mr. Hassler was always on the job, looking after the interests of the state in the protection and custody of park property and constantly interested in extending all the assistance in his power to make the visits of the public so satisfactory that they would desire to come again for an outing, for a picnic or a rest.

Mr. Hassler loved this park and tried in every way to help other people enjoy it. He made a brave fight to maintain his health, which had been failing for more than a year, in order that he might continue as its custodian. As his desire to live longer was not granted it is quite certain that his wish would have been that his last resting place might be on one of the wooded hills overlooking the park lake.

Following is the obituary sketch which was read at his funeral on Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. V. Wright pastor of the Baptist church officiating.

John Hassler, son of Joseph and Mary Hassler, was born at Farmington on Oct. 8, 1857. He grew to manhood in Farmington.

On June 28, 1884, he was united in marriage to Maggie Alfrey. To this union six children were born: Leo of Kirby, Ore.; Jay of Farmington; Raymond of Lehigh, Iowa; and Orran of Mansfield, Mo.; Charles died in infancy and Marie in 1913. His wife passed away Oct. 27, 1903.

He was united in marriage to Nancy Moreland on Nov. 25, 1904. To this union were born two sons and two daughters, three of whom survive: Verne and Lynn of Farmington, and Mrs. Stanley Housholder, also of Farmington. One daughter, Christiana, died in 1914.

He was a member of the German Lutheran church.

After many months illness he passed away at his home near Farmington March 22, 1935.

Mr. Hassler was a man who was well known and liked. He had been custodian of the Farmington state park for the past eight years. He took great interest in his work, and his cheerful friendliness to those with whom he came in contact made him many friends.

He was a good husband and a splendid father and will be greatly missed by both his family and the community.

He leaves to mourn his departure his companion and wife, his children as above mentioned, many friends and relatives, in fact all who had known him.
