MRS. ALVIN S. HIATT
Mrs. Catherine Almeda Hiatt, 88, died at her home in Birmingham Wednesday following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hiatt was born on Wolf island near Kingston, Ontario, Canada, May 5, 1854. She married Alvin S. Hiatt at Wallaceburg, Canada, Oct. 16, 1876 and he died May 7, 1909.
Following the marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hiatt moved to Lee county, Iowa, and from then until her death Mrs. Hiatt had lived at various times in Lee, Jefferson and Van Buren counties. Birmingham has been her home for the last 33 years.
She was the mother of six children, one of whom died in infancy. Surviving are five children, Orlo L. Hiatt and Harold Hiatt, both of Fairfield; Lyle Hiatt of Farmersville, Texas; Mrs. Blanche Johnston of Birmingham and Mrs. Mabel Collins of McAlester, Okla., and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday in the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member. Services were in charge of Rev. H. C. Irvine and burial in the Maple Hill cemetery.
