Jacob Christopher Hootman

Jacob Christopher Hootman, son of William and Margaret Hootman, was born near Mt. Zion, Iowa, June 14, 1855, and passed away May 7, 1936, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 23 days.

He had been in failing health the last few years, and bedfast since the first of the year. His entire life was spent in Van Buren County near Mt. Zion, Iowa, with the exception of a few months in the state of Montana when a young man.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Wilson, Hugh, James and Joseph; three sisters, Mary E., Anne and Ella Hootman.

He is survived by two brothers, John Hootman of Mt. Zion, and Vermil Hootman of Birmingham, Iowa. He also leaves two nephews and two nieces: Fred Hootman of Cottonwood, Cal., Clem Hootman of Birmingham; Mrs. Bertha Sorenson of Oroville, Cal.; Mrs. Hazel Bonnett of Birmingham.

He united with the United Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, when young and has ever kept the faith, spending part of each day through the years in worship of the Lord.

He will be greatly missed in his home and in the community in which he has lived for so many years.

He was of an unassuming nature and he enjoyed the friendship of the young and old alike.

The funeral service was held at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church in charge of Rev. H. C. Irvine of Birmingham, Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Interment is in the Millers Chapel cemetery. Appropriate songs were sung by Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Barker, pianist, Mrs. Florence Campbell. The pallbearers were: Bruce Boley, Frank Ruby, Chet Barker, Lee Workman, Alva Arnold, Craig Miller.
