MRS. EMMA ALLEN ALTON
Mrs. Emma Allen Alton, widow of E. H. Alton, passed away at the Jefferson county hospital, July 21, 1942, where she had been a patient for the last seven months, following a stroke. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. ?. B. Allen of Hillsboro and is the last of her family with the exception of one sister, Mrs. J. M. Har?er of Fairfield and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. and Mrs. Alton moved to Birmingham in 1892, where he entered a partnership in the furniture and undertaking business with G. W. Countryman and remained in that business in the same location until his retirement ten years ago, when they moved to Fairfield.
They were the parents of one son, Craig Allen, who passed away Nov. 23, 1938, and his father three days later, Nov. 26, 1938, leaving Mrs. Alton alone and sorely afflicted but with all she was very patient and cheerful and enjoyed the calls made by her many friends, especially those from Birmingham.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Birmingham, where she was an attendant while living here, conducted by Rev. R. T. Richards, the pastor, and Rev. H. C. Irvine, pastor of the Presbyterian church and near neighbor and friend. She was laid to rest in beautiful Maple Hill cemetery, in which she and her husband took much pride and was named by them.
