J. H. RATCLIFF

John Harley Ratcliff, third son of Aaron and Charlotte Ratcliff, was born May 13, 1871, near Leando, Iowa, and passed away Jan. 13, 1941 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. E. McCannon at Ottumwa at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 12 days.

He was united in marriage to May Jane Moore Jan. 27, 1900. To this union were born four sons and three daughters. The most of his life was spent in the vicinity of Douds, Birmingham and Ottumwa, with the exception of four years spent in Oberlin, Kansas. A kind and loving father and husband, he will be greatly missed by his wife and children.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and seven children: Howard of Waterloo, Iowa, Keith of McCloud, Calif., Ralph in the U. S. Navy, Phil of Des Moines, Mrs. Lawrence Ashmead of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. A. L. Bachman and Mrs. G. E. McCannon of Ottumwa, Iowa; two brothers, H. L. of Birmingham; R. A. of Douds; three sisters, Mrs. A, G. Rail of Birmingham, Mrs. Frank Wiley and Mrs. Theo Fellows of Douds.

Ralph who is in the U. S. Navy is Chief Petty Officer on the U. S. Destroyer Trevor at Pearl Harbor.

Funeral services were held at the Pedrick funeral home in Douds, Rev. H. C. Irvine officiating. Interment in Birmingham cemetery.
