Lester L. Cloke

BIRMINGHAM - Lester L. Cloke, 87, formerly of rural Birmingham, died at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, march 17, 1994, at the Klein Unit of Burlington Medical Center in Burlington.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Grant officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham. Visitation will be open Sunday from morning until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests memorials to the Fairfield Children's Library or the American Cancer Society.

Cloke was born April 5, 1906, in Jefferson County, the son of Franklin Samual and Emily Ruie Snook Cloke. On Sept. 6, 1933, he married Mary Elizabeth Cubbage in Kahoka, Mo. She died Sept. 29, 1991. A resident of rural Birmingham, Union Township, Van Buren County, for most of his life, he was a self-employed farmer for 53 years until retiring. He was affiliated with Hickory Grove Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Erma Patterson of Gary, Ind., Rose Saben, Margaret Hingst, both of Burlington, Helen Walker of Mission, Texas, mary Cloke of Fairfield; six sons, James, Ruben, William, Raymond, all of Burlington, Robert of Fairbault, Minn., George of East Brewton, Ala.; a number of grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Ryman of Agency; three brothers, Russell of Eldon, Clarence of Burlington and Raymond of Arp, Texas. A brother, George, a grandson, and three sisters in infancy, preceded him in death.
