SYLVESTER VORHIS

Sylvester Vorhis was born in Fulton county Indiana, January 18, 1843, and died December 31, 1928, being at the time 85 years, 11 months and 12 days old.

On January 2, 1867, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary M. Criss. To this union was born eleven children, of whom seven children and his wife have preceded him in death. He is survived by three sons, one daughter, and his second wife as he remarried four years ago being left a widower by his first wife.

Mr. Vorhis was one of the pioneer residents of Troy, Davis county. He lived in the Troy neighborhood nearly all of his life, making his residence in the city of Ottumwa last fall.

Mr. Vorhis was a good man, and he will be missed by the neighborhood for he had many friends.

A short funeral service was conducted at the grave last Thursday afternoon by the Rev. J.C. Brouhard in the presence of the immediate relatives and friends, with burial in the family lot at the Rouch cemetery.
