On last Wednesday, Sept. 3, the death angel visited the village of Troy and bore away, not the aged nor the very young, the victim being Charles F. Stevens, at the age of thirty years and thirty days. He was born in Van Buren county, near Cantril, but came with his parents to Troy while yet a child. Here he spent the days of his youth. Here he was known and appreciated and will not soon be forgotten. He was married December 12, 1883, to Ella Norris, daughter of Hon. T. O. Norris and leaves behind him a wife and three children. For some months he has been engaged in merchandising in the town of Winterset, but his family remained in Troy. A few weeks ago he returned expecting only to visit his family, rest a short time from labor and then return to his business, but he has gone whence he will not return.
“There is a reaper whose name is death
And with his sickle keen,
He gathers the bearded grain of earth
And the flowers that grow between.”To one at his beside he said he had committed himself to the Lord, and was trusting to him. The funeral was held at the M. E. Church. Sermon by the writer of these lines. He was buried by the order of the Masons with the usual ceremony, the lodges from Pulaski and Milton taking part. The family and other relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of very many friends.
