SIDNEY SPARKS

Sidney Sparks, son of William T. and Iva Pettit Sparks, was born near Mt. Sterling on December 12, 1906, and departed this life March 16, 1979 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 72.

On July 20, 1929, he married Arlene Zollars. They spent their entire life in Van Buren County, where they engaged in farming until 1945. He worked with his brother Gerald in the Keosauqua Locker Plant for a number of years.

Remaining to cherish his memories are his widow Arlene, two daughters, Shirley Aldrich and Lois Greiner, both of Keosauqua and eight granchidlren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Donald, and a brother Gerald Sidney. (He) was a member of the Christian Church.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a good citizen and friend.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 20, 1979, at 3 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Rev. Bill Bensheimer of the Keosauqua Christian Church officiating. Mrs. Fred Parsons was the soloist and Mrs. George Carnahan the organist. Pallbearers were Lex Miller, Donald Campbell, Arthur Poling, Paul Bollinger, Charles Carter, and Arthur Ovrom. Interment was in Blackledge Cemetery east of Mt. Sterling. A memorial was established for the cancer fund.
