OBITUARY

John Wesley Brewer, son of Henry and Sarah Brewer was born January 10th, 1861, near Utica, Iowa and died at his home south of Leando April 7th, 1929, age 65 years, 2 months and 27 days. When a young man he was a student in Howe’s Academy at Mt. Pleasant.

He was united in marriage to Miss Ada Griest, May 15th, 1884 at Utica, Iowa, the Rev. G. W. Barber performed the ceremony. This union was blessed with eight children, five boys and three girls all of whom are living. Mr. and Mrs. Brewer also made a home for a cousin, Miss Lena Fickel. For twenty-nine years the family had lived in Chequest township. The deceased was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for many years, a man of faith and prayer. He established a family altar and for thirty years the fire on that altar burned brightly. The passing of Mr. Brewer broke the first segment of the family circle.

He will be missed and mourned by the widow and the children: Mrs. Grace Fellows of Leando, Mrs. Olive Johnston of Lebanon, Charles Brewer of Birmingham, Iowa; Lester Brewer of Keokuk, Iowa; Mrs. Ethel Hissem of California, Carroll Brewer of Belmont, Nebraska; Glen Brewer of Broken Bow, Nebr., and Van Brewer of California, also Mrs. Lena Fickel Ellis of Keokuk, Iowa, fifteen grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Cora Fahlgren of Washburn, North Dakota; two brthers, Edwin of Oregon and Walter of Helena, Montana and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday forenoon from the church in Leando conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. M. Chader. The Williams Brothers quartet of Birmingham sang three beautiful and comforting selections.

Those attending the funeral from a distance besides the children were Mrs. Ida Brewer and son Earl of Yates Center, Kansas; Ray and Harry Fickel of Troy, Iowa. Interment was made in the Miller Chapel cemetery near Utica, Iowa.
