The LIFE STORY

ORA W. SANFORDOra W. Sanford, 67, a retired Rock Island railroad agent, died at 4 a.m. Friday, April 4, at his home in Douds. He had been in failing health for about three years and an invalid since January, 1956.
He was born Jan. 11, 1891, on a farm near Douds. He spent his entire life in this community except for about eight years with the railroad in other Iowa towns. Prior to his retirement in 1956 he served over 30 years as station agent here.
He was married April 22, 1914 to Mae Doud, who survives. He was a member of Knights of Pythias, the Order of Railway Telegraphers and the Community club. He served several years as school director and was an advisor of Boy Scouts.
Surviving besides his wife are his mother, Mrs. Minnie Sanford of San Francisco; two brothers, Grover of San Francisco and Veryl of Novato, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
The service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the Pedrick funeral home. Burial was in the Mt. Moriah cemetery near Douds.
The Rev. David Pease officiated.
