MRS. JOHN OOSTHOEK

Mrs. Bertha Oosthoek, 89, of Douds died Saturday, July 25, at 9 p.m. at the Van Buren County Memorial hospital in Keosauqua. She was admitted to the hospital earlier that evening. For several years, she had been a patient at the Moore Nursing Home in Stockport.

The daughter of Harvey J. and Catherine Pool Slutz, she was born Feb. 8, 1875, near Mt. Zion. On March 7, 1889, she married John H. Oosthoek. The couple lived in Van Buren County and for many years resided on a farm northeast of Douds.

She was a member of the Methodist church.

Mr. Oosthoek died in 1963. Also preceding her in death were a son, Harvey, in 1960; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Ramesy (sic) and Mrs. Ada Bailey and a granddaughter.

Survivors include a son, Martin H. of Birmingham; two daughters, Mrs. Lester Bennett of Douds and Mrs. Floyd Moore of Birmingham; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Ramsey of Fairfield, Mrs. Eva Oosthoek of Eldon and Mrs. Anna Geiger of Aurora, Nebr.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. E.K. Parrott of Fairfield officiating. Burial was in Zion Lutheran cemetery near Douds.
