DEATH OF J. J. LANE

Jonathan J. Lane, for the past 14 years a resident of Rock Island, Ill., died at the home of his son Harry S. Lane, of that place Wednesday, August 31st, after an illness of several months duration.

He was born at St. Johns, Newfoundland, May 14, 1840. He was married to Mary C. Southwick, October 6, 1872, and for a number of years resided on a farm near Pittsburg, Iowa later moving to Milton, which was his home for several years. His wife preceded him in death, May 14, 1911. Mr. Lane served in the Civil war in Co. C, 33rd Wisconsin Infantry and was a member of the G.A.R.

Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. Roy Graft, Mrs. Clifford McComb of Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. Robert Van Hook of Booker, Montana; three sons, Frank D. of Audubon, Iowa, Fred and Harry, both of Rock Island, Ill., also 16 grandchildren and one great grandson, besides a host of friends.

He was a member of the Milton Presbyterian church, joining in 1902, and was janitor of the church for some time. He was also at one time custodian of the capital building in Des Moines.

The remains were brought to Milton for burial, the funeral being held from the Presbyterian church, Saturday afternoon, September 3rd, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Wm. Slosser. Interment in the Milton Sunnyside cemetery.
