Jonathan Kimmel

Jonathan Kimmel, son of Jacob and Lucy Kimmel, was born near Birmingham, Iowa, May 30, 1873, and departed this life February 1, 1931, at the age of 57 years, 8 months and 1 day.

Hack, as he was formerly known, had gone to one of his neighbors on an errand and while there the Master called him to his side. He has lived his entire life in and near his home and was loved by all who knew him and will be sadly missed in the community. Hack was a great lover of music and no musical gathering in the neighborhood or surrounding neighborhoods was thought complete without him.

On July 30, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Myrtle Knox. They went to housekeeping on the farm where they have spent their 29 years of married life.

Besides his loving companion, he leaves to mourn their loss three brothers, and one sister, John and Henry of Birmingham, Frances of Bentonsport and Mina, Mrs. Chas. Hootman of Fairfield besides a host of friends which includes all who knew him.

I can not say and I will not say
That he is dead-he is just away;
With a cheery smile and a wave of hand,
He has wondered into an unknown land,
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be since he lingers there,
And you-oh you the wildest yearn,
For the old times step and glad return
Think of him faring on as dear
In the love of there as in the love of here;
Think of him still as the same as I say,
He is not dead-he is just away.

(Volunteer transcription. I am of no known relation.)
