Departed this life Nov. 14, 189? from her home near Lebanon, Mrs. Gitty Mariah McQuoid. She was born July 11, 1836, in Huntendon[sic] county, New Jersey. The family moved to Iowa in 1843. At the age of 21 years she was married to Jonathan McQuoid. This was a very happy union, which was broken some six years ago by death coming and claiming her companion. To them were born four children, one of whom passed to the land in early life. During the period that she was a widow she superintended the interests of the farm, succeeding well and keeping everything in good order. Mrs. Winn and a son and daughter at home were the childred[sic] left to mourn the loss of a very devoted mother. Her father, Mr. Van Fleet,, who is quite advanced in years with a large number of loved ones and friends were present at the funeral service which occurred at the M. E. church in Lebanon Sabbath, Nov. 16, conducted by the writer and from there was taken and laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery east of town. During the last illness she expressed a strong faith in prayer as I went into the “unseen” trusting to the merit of Christ. Her life was one of devotion to the right, and we shall hope to meet again where friends will part no more.

Note: “Huntendon” should be “Hunterdon”.
