CHARLES YATES

Charles Yates, son of John T. and Rachel Yates, was born in Mooresville, Morgan county, Indiana, Sept. 6, 1857. When a small child he moved to Richland, Keokuk county, Iowa, living there seven years. In 1874, with his parents he came to Missouri, locating near Lancaster, Schuyler county, where he grew to manhood. On March 14, 1886, he was united in marriage to Ida Catherine Anthony. After marriage he located on a farm near Stiles, Iowa, where he lived for 39 years. His health failing he, with his family, moved to Milton, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life, which came to a close December 17, 1931. To this union were born two daughters, one having died in infancy. His early religious training was the Quaker or Friends church. He united with the United Brethren church in 1887 and remained in that faith until death. He was a kind and loving husband and father, often expressing his faith in the Savior. Just a short time ago he called his family to his bedside and said he was ready to go whenever it was God’s will, and asked that his loved ones meet him in heaven.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife; one daughter, Leona; three brothers, Isaac of Kirksville, Mo., Jerry and Lewis of Lancaster, Mo. His father, mother, and three brothers, Thomas Jefferson, James and William, and three sisters, Mary Etta Anderson, Minta M. Barnes and Mattie Jean Smith, preceded him in death.
