Davis Cornelius Atkins son of Kenneth and Naomi Atkins, was born on a farm south of Milton, Iowa, March 31, 1859, and departed this life at his home in Milton, Dec. 3, 1931, aged 72 years, 8 months and 3 days.

March 5, 1884, he was united in marriage with Miss Lillian M. Henthorn. They went to housekeeping on a farm near Milton, where they lived a few years, then moved to Milton, residing there the rest of his life.

Many years ago, under the pastorate of J. Wesley Potter, he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Milton, and continued a faithful member until his death.

For nearly forty-five years he engaged in the produce business in Milton, and having lived all his life in this vicinity, was well known by a large circle of friends. He was a good man, a loving husband and father, always reliable in his business dealings, kind and sociable.

A few years ago, under warning from the doctor that he must spare his eyes from reading, or lose his eyesight, Uncle Dave took to the radio, and it was his great delight. He was ailing for the last three years, growing much worse three weeks ago. Everything possible was done to relieve him of his suffering, but it was of no avail. At the last he slipped quietly away.

There remain to mourn his loss, his wife and three children, Maurice, Mrs. Berye Gilchrist and Marvin, all of Milton, and three grandchildren; also two brothers, George, of Milton, and Joe, of Nebraska, and a large number of other relatives and friends.
