N. K. Sanders Taken In Death

Newell Kenneth Sanders, 77, 401 S. Main St., died at 2:30 a.m. today at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He had been ill for the past year.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 2 at 10 a.m. at Mount Zion United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harold Schnedler and the Rev. Dale Ellsworth officiating. Sanders had deeded his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Sanders was born Jan. 22, 1900 at Montezuma, the son of Harry E. and Mary E. Leavers Sanders. He was married May 30, 1927 to Mabel McIntosh.

Sanders served as maintenance superintendent of the Iowa Ordinance Plant at Burlington during World War II. He and his wife resided in Salem, Ore., and San Jose, Calif., before moving to Fairfield five years ago.

Sanders is survived by his widow. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. He was a member of the Methodist Church and Malta Lodge No. 319, AF&AM Burlington.
