Lucy M. McGaffey

WASHINGTON, Iowa --- The service for Lucy M. McGaffey, 89, of Parkview Care Center, formerly of Washington, who died Monday morning, May 6, 1991, at the care center, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Jones funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham. Open visitation begins Wednesday morning at the funeral home. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 that night. A memorial has been established to the Cancer Society.

Mrs. McGaffey was born Aug. 3, 1901, in Van Buren County, the daughter of John and Louise Miner Kimmel. She married David McGaffey, on Sept. 7, 1919, in Keosauqua. He died Jan. 30, 1977.

Surviving are a son, Gerald of Washington; a daughter. Dorothy Hudson of Fairfield; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Kimmel of Milton; five sisters, Edith Fisher of Toulon, Ill, Marietta Canaday of Selma, Ruth McGill of Davenport, Helen Leyden of Washington and Eleanor Stalder of Brighton. A son and three brothers preceded her in death.
