BATAVIA---Geraldine DeSpiegelaere, 56, Batavia, died Friday at 1 p.m. at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following an extended illness.

A Christian Wake service will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral home in Batavia. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Eldon with the Rev. Kenneth Martin and Rev. William Kaska officiating.

Burial will be in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua. A memorial fund has been established to Van Buren County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Nickelson was born Oct. 15, 1923 the daughter of Gaston and Bertha Smessaert DeSpiegelaere. Most of her life was spent in the Keosauqua and Batavia communities.

Mrs. Nickelson graduated from the University of Iowa and taught school in Alaska. She was married to John Nickelson Sept. 24, 1950. For the past 18 years she has been associated with the Batavia Gardens. She was a member of St. Aloysius Church.

Surviving are her husband, are four daughters: Mrs. William Broz and Mrs. Kennis McKeever, both of Batavia; Mrs. Roger Dalner, Keokuk; and Jackie nickelson[sic], Iowa City. Also surviving are three grandchildren, her mother, Mrs. Bertha DeSpiegelaere, Batavia; one brother, Robert DeSpiegelaere, Batavia.
