H.E. CALHOUN

The funeral for H.E. (Cal) Calhoun, 50, of rural Keosauqua was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23 in the Keosauqua Congregational Church. The Rev. Millard Marshall officiated with Catcott Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Calhoun died at 3 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, where he had been a patient since suffering a heart attack Jan. 16.

He was Hurdie Elmo, son of Barney and Ona Calhoun, and was born July 25, 1921 at Memphis, Texas. He served with the Seabees in World War II in the Asiatic Pacific region. He married Dorothy Morlan on July 11, 1947 at Santa Monica, Calif.

The family moved to Keosauqua in 1960, when Mr. Calhoun was associatied with the Van Buren County Register newspaper. He later worked for Anderson Pontiac-Dodge in Fairfield. At the time of his death, he was employed by Hames Mobile Homes of Marion, Iowa.

He was a member of the Keosauqua Congregational Church, where he was Sunday school superintendent for about six years. He also belonged to the Keosauqua Beer-Barker American Legion Post and the Fairfield VFW, Elks and Shrine. He had been a member of the Keosauqua Commercial Club.

Survivors include his father and stepmother of Fresno, Calif.; his wife, Dorothy of rural Keosauqua; a son, Dennis Calhoun of Huxley; a daughter, Mrs. Karen DeHart, and two grandchildren also of Huxley; two brothers, Robert and Lee of California; two sisters, Mrs. Adell Wonnell of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Mrs. Ona Thomas of Huntington Park, Calif.

A memorial has been established at the Congregational Church.
