Mrs. W. A. Steadman

Amy Rebecca Steadman, youngest daughter of Orson and Ruby Smith, was born May 21, 1851, at Potsdam, New York, and died at Bonaparte, Iowa, April 14, 1909, aged 57 years, 10 months, and 24 days, mourned by a husband, three daughters, two grandsons, two sisters, and one brother.

She was of a family of six, three sisters and two brothers; one brother, James C. Smith, and one sister, Mrs. Nell Huffman, having preceded her to the "Great Beyond."

Her parents came to Iowa in 1855 and settled at Waukon, Allamakee county, removing in 1866 to Bonaparte Iowa, where their family grew to manhood. It was here April 10, 1870, she was united in marriage to W. A. Steadman and to this union six children were born, three daughters, Cora, Jennie, and Nell, and three sons who died in infancy.

She was a lover of home and was a homemaker to the true sense of the word. She found her chief enjoyment with her husband, children, and grandchildren, administering to their every want; and although she had been a sufferer for many years, she bore her pain uncomplainingly and while the desire to "become well" was strong within her she was not "afraid to die."

Funeral services were held at the late home Friday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. Jas. Clark of the Presbyterian church officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery. There were many beautiful floral tributes of respect, sacred to her memory.
