JOHANNON SMART

Johannon Smart, eleventh child of James and Tobiha Smart, was born near Utica in Van Buren county, Iowa, June 27, 1846, and passed to eternal rest March 27, 1926, aged 79 years and 9 months.

He was united in marriage with Mary E. Cecil Nov. 26, 1868, at Keosauqua. To this union five children were born, one of which preceded him in death.

He was labored under severe physical handicaps since he was 18 years of age. But he worked patiently and endured hardships and played the part of a good father to his family. He was a noble example of patience and endurance.

There remains to mourn their loss, the wife, Mrs. Smart, two sons, Frank of Hillsboro and Clarence of Milton; two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Edie, of Marceline, Mo. Alice Barker of Bentonsport, Iowa. And 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many friends.

Funeral was held at the M. E. church at Bonaparte, Rev. Samp, pastor of the M. E. church officiating

Farewell dear father

Sweet thy rest;
Weary with years

And worn with pain
Farewell until in some other land

We shall behold thy face again.
“Tis our’s to miss thee all our years

And tender memories of thee keep
But thine in the Lord to rest for

He giveth His beloved sleep.
