Gail Hootman Sr.

Gail W. Hootman Sr., 75, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at his home.

Born Sept. 21, 1936, in Athens, Mo., he was the son of David Benjamin and Clarissa Mae Pickens Hootman. In 1959, he married Sharon Kay Long in Burlington. She died De, 27, 2010

Mr. Hootman worked 42 years as a signal maintainer for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1998. He lived five years in Farmington and 40 years in Altona, Ill., before moving to Galesburg. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Altona Mason Lodge 330 and Scottish Rite in Moline, Ill. He was an active Boy Scout leader and had served as district Scout master.

Survivors include two daughters, Gaila Crump of Galesburg and Roszella Pogue of Oneida, Ill.; four sons, Benjamin Hootman of Wataga, Ill., Gail Hootman Jr. and Christopher Hootman, both of Galesburg, and Jonathan Hootman of North Henderson, ILL.; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thena Long of Burlington and Izean Garnett of Kahoka, Mo.; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel in Galesburg, where Masonic services will be at 7 p.m. followed by the funeral of Mr. Hootman, with the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating.

The graveside service for Mr. Hootman will be at noon Friday in Steinmeyer Cemetery in Farmington, with the Rev. Danny Weinreich officiating.

A memorial has been established for Steinmeyer Cemetery Association.
