Earl I. Canaday

Earl I. Canaday, 85, of Birmingham died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham with the Rev. Keith Trumbo officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham.

Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with family present from 7 to 8 that evening. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Fairfield Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Canaday was born Sept. 20, 1911, at the family farm four miles west of Birmingham, the son of Elmer A. and Edna Othello Canaday.

He married Ruth G. McKee on April 30, 1939, at Memphis, Mo. A lifetime resident of Birmingham, he was a farmer and served as ASC Township committeeman.

He was a 20-year member of the Bethel Methodist Church and was affiliated with the Fairfield Seventh-day Adventist Church. He belonged to the Raney Neighborhood Club, the Bethel Neighborhood Club, the Friendly Folks; and was a long time member of the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife; two brothers, John of Boulder, Colo., and Dean of Birmingham; one sister, Karen Streed of Marshalltown; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Cleola Yarnell; and three brothers, Lloyd E., Clifford E. and Robert Lee.
