A. W. DUFFIELD DIES FROM FALL
-----------------------
Davis County Native, 78, Thrown To Ground
When Windstorm Strikes Ladder

Archie Walter Duffield, 78, died at St. Joseph hospital at Ottumwa at 6:15 a.m. today of injuries received between 4 and 5 p.m. Monday when high wind blew down a ladder on which he was standing to fix an eave trough.

Mr. Duffield suffered a broken hip and wrist and relatives believe he also suffered shock and other injuries which contributed to his death.

The accident occurred at the home of his son, F. Cliff Duffield with whom Mr. Duffield resided eight miles east of Bloomfield. He was brought to the local hospital at once.

Mr. Duffield was born in Davis county and lived there all of his life except a few years in Ottumwa as a young man. He was the son of Thomas and Catherine Duffield.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susie Duffield; two sons, Earl E. Duffield and F. C. Duffield, both near Bloomfield; a daughter, Mrs. Emery Curry of Downers Grove, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Walter A. Carpenter of Ottumwa, and several grandchildren.

The body is at the Wagler funeral home in Bloomfield awaiting funeral arrangements.
