JOHN T. FORSYTHE

John T. Forsythe, son of James and Sarah Perry Forsythe, was born near Pittsburgh, Pa., October 24, 1848, and passed away, January 1, 1929, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 8 days.

He came to Wapello county with his parents at the age of 3 years and resided in this county his entire life with the exception of twenty-two years which were spent in Union county.

On December 22, 1870, Mr. Forsythe was united in marriage to Miss Mary C. Chisman of Munterville, by Rev. Brown of Kirkville, the Presbyterian minister. To this union were born nine children. He is survived by his wife and six children, four daughters, Della M. Seth of Ottumwa, Bertha L. Power of Maloga, Wash., Mrs. Fred Ross of Batavia and Dora E. Millard of Des Moines, and two sons, Robert M. of Ottumwa and Edmund Q. of Wenatchee, Wash. Willie and Roy preceded him in death in infancy and Anthony four years ago. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Forsythe celebrated their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary on December 22, 1928.

Mr. Forsythe was from a family of ten children, Miss Mel Forsythe of Tacoma, Wash., being the only survivor. R. G. W. Forsythe, his only surviving brother at the time, passed away two years ago at the age of 76 years.

Capt. E. Q. Forsythe and wife of Wenatchee and Mrs. Power of Maloga, Wash., were notified of their father’s illness and started for Ottumwa immediately, but he had passed before their arrival. Mr. Forsythe was united with the Presbyterian church at Kirkville, Iowa, in 1864.

He was actively engaged in farming until the last nine years when he moved to Ottumwa and resided at 426 West Wilson street. --- Contributed
