B. J. Stong Of Keosauqua Dies

Father of Author, Succumbs At Home Monday Morning

B. J. Stong, 66, died at 8:30 a.m. Monday at his home in Keosauqua, after being confined to his bed several months with heart trouble.

He was born March 29, 1870, at Kilbourne, and went into the mercantile business as a young man at Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and had been postmaster the last two years.

He was postmaster at Pittsburg when the first rural free delivery mail route was brought into Van Buren county and located at Pittsburg.

He was married to Miss Ada Duffield in 1896. He is survived by his wife; three children, Phil Stong, of Washington, Conn. Author of “State Fair” and other books; Benton Stong and Jo S. Stong, both of Keosauqua; a grandchild, Norma Stong of Keosauqua; a brother, Grover Stong, of Waterloo, and a sister, Mrs. Allie Short, of Kilbourne.

Funeral services were held Wednesday and burial at Keosauqua.
